Maui - January 2009

My wife and I will be going to Maui in Jaunary. We will be there from January 23rd through the 29th, and then we will probably jump over to the big island for a few nights before returning home to NJ. I'd love to meet up with folks while I'm there. I'll stop by St. Anthony and make contact with them about any support they can lend in helping us organize a 25 year reunion in 2012.

On another note, Archie is planning to swing through NYC next summer and we're making plans to meet up. If anyone else is coming through New York give me a shout - I can give you recommendations and would love to meet up.

I'm still waiting on Gary Pico, Jinnah Rose, Tom Perryman and Chad Asuncion to post something.

I'm narrowing in on Jonathan Tanji and I expect to get him on here soon.

I look forward to hearing from everyone. Drop me a line.

April Recap

April was an amazing month for the Blog. We added two new members (Christine Nunez, Korinne Kepani) and added over 40 missing names to the list of missing class members.

I sent emails to all alums registered with classmates.com and found a picture of Kieth Earney. Moreover, I spoke to John Theis and tracked down Peter Alau. Moreover, Michael Sturgeon warned everone about his impending plans to return to Maui.

I hope that in May we can keep up the pace and track down lots more of our classmates.

Finally, it has come to my attention that Heidi Franco died in a car crash a number of years ago. I added an "In Memoriam" section on the blog to note her passing. Hopefully she is the only one so far.

May is a wonderful time of awakening, birth and flowering. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you on the blog or in my inbox.

Korinne (Kepani) Corpuz

Hey SAS class of 1987. Well I guess I will be the first post that says I am still on Maui. I married a local boy that graduated the same year as us, from Maui High, Lloyd Corpuz. We will soon be married for 20 years, and have two children, a boy and a girl. Our son is Kyle (19) and our daughter is Kylee (9). My son graduated this past year from King Kekaulike and my daughter is in the Hawaiian immersion program where all of their studies are and homework is conducted using the Hawaiian language.

When we graduated, I began working at our only acute hospital, Maui Memorial Medical Center, and decided that I wanted to become a nurse, and received my Associate of Science degree in nursing in 1998. I continued to work at the hospital, and decided I wanted to torture myself more, and received my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Phoenix in 2005. I am currently a registered nurse in the outpatient surgery area and the recovery room.

My husband's class had 2 reunions last year, that we attended, and it was fun. They had one here on Maui, and another one in Las Vegas. I hope we can all get together soon, and I think this is a great wayto start. Hope to see everyone soon.

Christine (Nunez) Breuklander

Well, hey everybody. I've never tried blogging before, so I hope that this goes through correctly. I tried putting in a photo, of the kids, hopefully that will make it. If not, I'll try again later. Not too much has been happening over the years. I married a Marine, Chad, and now have 3 kids. Zackery (3), Seth (5), and Gabrielle (2). They definitely keep us on our toes and are the main reason we have decided to not have more. We're living in Westminster, CO, which is a few minutes away from Denver. The kids are all out of school today and not letting me do a whole lot of anything, but play referee. Between the crashes, crying, yelling and barking from the dogs, I'm surprised that I have been able to type as much as I have. Hope to hear more about everybody.

Welcome Christine (Nunez) Breuklander

Were on a roll this week. I just got an email from Christine (Nunez) Breuklander. It's always great to hear what everyone has been up to.

Christine - please jump right in and give everyone an update on what you've been up to. Of course, everyone loves pictures also.

Great to hear from you!

Welcome!

Keith Earney?

I've been trolling the amazing interweb trying to track down lost classmates. I think this is a picture of Keith Earney. Apparently he is (or was) a reserve officer with the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Aloha from Jacque

Hi there everyone! Well let's see...I graduated from UNLV with a degree in special education and then later got my master's in education administration. I got married in '91 and went on to have three sons! After living in Las Vegas for almost 13 years, our family moved back to Maui in 2001 where we still live today. I was the VP at Lahaina Intermediate for 5 years before transferring to Maui Waena Intermediate School. We are wrapping the school year and look forward to another great school year soon!

Hi from Judy

Well "hello" from Concord, Ca (in the San Francisco Bay Area)! Here's a quick summary of what's gone on in the past 20 (!) years. I graduated from Santa Clara University (where I met my husband) in '91 and married in '93. We've been living in Concord for the past 15 years, enjoying raising our two daughters, Natalie (12) and Emily (10).
We visit Maui every 1.5-2 years to see my family.
I'm thrilled that we have a way of communicating with one another and really hope that we can get a 25th reunion set-up.
I look forward to hearing from others!

Welcome Judy

I'm always really happy when I check my email in the morning and see something from one of our classmates. I got an email from Judy (Rezents) Davies yesterday. Hopefully she'll post a picture or two and let us all know what she's been up to.

Welcome to the blog Judy.

I Spoke to John Theis

I spoke to John Theis this morning. It was good catching up with him. He was pretty surprised to hear that Archie has six kids.

John - send me an email and I'll get you set up to post to the blog. Post a picture and give us all an update on what you've been up to these years.

ALOHA.... you sassy, sexy, suave Trojans of 1987

OK... OK... the rumors can all be put to rest now - no, I haven't been abducted by aliens - didn't join the French Foreign Legion (does that still even exist) - and never moved to Antarctica to document the migration patterns of penguins (but damn wasn't that Happy Feet movie inspirational?)

So, what have I been doing? Hmm... good question, has it really been over 20 years? Well, I went to college in Chicago ('88) - fell in love ('90) - moved to Dallas ('93) - got married back on Makena Cove ('96) - then got divorced ('03)... and in there was the birth of my two angels - Samantha Christine Sturgeon (about to turn 9) and Jake Dominic Sturgeon (very soon to be 7)

... at this point I should stop because it just dawned on me that all of you could be asking yourself the exact same question... "Who the hell is Michael Sturgeon, and is he sure he was in our class?"

Welcome to Kim and Michael!

The word is spreading! I got emails from Kim (Antonio) Balisco and Michael Sturgeon. I hope to see some posts from them soon!

Speaking of which we still haven't seen a post by Travis or Michelle. I'm sure everyone is interested to see what you look like and what you're up to these days.

Me and My Wife

This is a picture of me and my wife Gabriela. No kids.

Snowballing?

So I think we're starting to get somewhere. I contacted the person at St. Anthony who is responsible for alumni affairs (Janice Pruett). She will forward info on our blog to their webmaster to see if she can put a link to the blog on the sasmaui.org site. She is also going to put a note about the blog in the next alumni newsletter.

I also got an email from someone who is friends with Paul Conboy and Renee Pires. She stumbled across the blog and will let them know about it.

Paul and Renee - If your out there drop me a line.

Archie Spradlin

Aloha!

Thought I'd post a couple pics of my DNA spawns!

(Top) Me and wife, Gayle and newest 6 month old, Aaron James
(Bottom) Kaytlin 14, Kylee 11, AJ 3, Abby 5, Colin 8
Now I've posted. Now Ant, you don't have to keep hounding me! Hello Jackie, great to remember every now and then a time when I was 50 lbs lighter. Nothing of substance going on in my end of the world (Columbus, Ohio) other than the Buckeyes AND the Warriors lost again this year! Hope to see everyone again. Last ones I ran into was Michael Gabriel about 7 years ago and Jeff Silva a little farther back. WOW! Time flies! I miss the island and the weather! I keep telling my wife, we can still be just as poor on Maui!

Jackie

I hope others will take Jackie (Basco) Brown's lead and post pictures and updates here at the blog to let our classmates know what you're up to or at least what you look like. I'v been pestering Archie to post something. He has plenty of stuff to talk about. In addition to being a cop he has an enormous family and is living near Columbus, Ohio.
Keep checking in for updates.

The Full Class List

I have added a list of classmates who have not yet contacted the blog on the right side of the page below the list of people who have contacted the blog. The goal is to gradually convert names from the former category to the latter.

Please forgive any errors or omissions. I was working from a spreadsheet forwarded by Tanya Lopes, which I believe originally came from St. Anthony. There are one or two names on the spreadsheet that don't ring a bell for me but I've included them on the assumption that it is my memory that is the problem. If you see anything wrong with the list let me know and it will be corrected.

Tracking Down Lost Classmates

Now that we're up and running I would like to turn our attention to tracking down the rest of the folks from our class.

If you are in contact with anyone from our class who has not contacted the blog send me their email and I'll try to get their information and start sharing information with them. It's been great hearing from the folks who have contacted me so far. It has been good to get updates and see where people are living.

Let's keep the conversation going.
